I posted here about what had been reported as the reason for Steven Vincent's murder in Iraq. It turns out that while the premise of the information is correct - Mr. vincent was planning to marry his interpreter - the implication that I drew from the story was incorrect.

Read this story to find out what's really going on. It's a letter from Mr. Vincent's wife (that's right, his wife) to Juan Cole, a university professor who was harsh in his criticism of Mr. Vincent's behavior in Iraq. It's an enlightening read, and worth the time, as it's rather long.

Of course, the whole thing is still awful, and senseless. But I'm somewhat relieved that this wasn't an "honor killing" perpetrated by the interpreter's family. That doesn't make it any better, though, does it?
